Pikes Peak Cog Railway

We tried riding the Pikes Peak cog railway for the first time! Lots of fun! More pretty Aspen! Over fourteen thousand feet! Awesome views! Fun gift shop…

We made it on our train! That wasn’t guaranteed, as we encountered more traffic than I’d allowed for. Here we’re just settled into our seats, and already heading up…

Along the way, we saw waterfalls!
Gushing culverts!
Mountain lakes!
Interesting piles of railway repair supplies along the way.
It's a steep climb, hence the need for a cog railway!
Pretty color on the hills below, as we climbed above the tree line
First glimpse of the visitor center from below, as we approach the top. The visitor center has food and gifts and someplace warm to hang out, when you get tired of the windchill.
Awesome visibility to the east, with the cog railway in the foreground, as we hurried through the cold wind from our train to the visitor center at the top
Quick stop for a picture of us with our cog railway car.
Awesome view to the north.
Cold and windy... I wandered over here, to get a sense of how the viewing platforms look from a different angle. The snow was only on the shady side.
Back at the bottom, I suddenly realized that I now know where the Manitou Incline stairs are. I’ve heard about them for years, but never knew where they were.
Looks like fun! Ugh… maybe some other time…
We enjoyed a late lunch at “The Golden Bee” restaurant, part of the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Nothing but praise for the service and food there!
